A downloadable game for Windows

Description

This project is a simple car racing game created as part of a Game Development and Design assignment. The game focuses on time-based gameplay, player movement, and interface feedback. The player drives a car along a road and collects time-boost objects while avoiding obstacles before the countdown timer reaches zero.

My Role & Responsibilities

  • Designed the racing map layout using basic 3D objects

  • Implemented player movement and car controls

  • Programmed a countdown timer system

  • Designed and implemented UI elements (menu, timer, speedometer)

  • Created collision-based time extension mechanics

UI / Interface Design Focus

The UI was designed to clearly communicate time pressure and player speed. A countdown timer provides constant feedback on remaining time, while a speedometer helps reinforce the sensation of movement. The main menu separates gameplay from instructions to improve clarity and usability.

Gameplay Features

  • 30-second countdown timer

  • Game-over state when the timer reaches zero

Controls

  • W / Up Arrow – Accelerate

  • A / Left Arrow – Turn Left

  • D / Right Arrow – Turn Right

  • S / Down Arrow – Brake / Reverse

Menu Design

The game includes a menu scene with two buttons:

  • Play Game – Starts the game

  • How to Play – Displays gameplay instructions and controls
